| No evidence police shooting victim involved in robberies Thu, 08 May 2008 18:06:00 EST DAYTON (AP) — The man shot and killed by police after a chase in Dayton this week was apparently not involved in two robberies that led to the chase to begin with. Montgomery County sheriff's Maj. Greg Laravie said Thursday that even though 44-year-old Lary Labensky of suburban Kettering was driving a stolen car, deputies would not have pursued him had they known he was not a suspect in the robberies. Laravie says deputies chased Labensky because he resembled the robbery suspect. Another man was later arrested in the robberies. Police say Labensky was shot after he refused to surrender and then accelerated his car toward an officer in the backyard of a house. |
